May Mini-Challenge 2021

May Mini Challenge 2021

I’m not sure what the weather is like where you live, but over here, it’s feeling a lot like spring! The cherry blossoms are blooming, fresh leaves are dotting the trees outside my window, and sunshine is pushing through the clouds. So, how about a cheery, flowery theme for our May Mini-Challenge?

For this month, I asked my admin team to help come up with three, spring-related prompts. And I think these check that box! As always, feel free to add these prompts in addition to your regular 52 reads, or to combine them with books you’re already reading for our 2021 challenge.

The May Mini-Challenge

Our three mini-challenge prompts for the month of May include:

  • published in spring (any year)
  • an author or character with a floral name
  • sunshine on the cover

Match one book to each of the prompts (for a total of three books). Share your picks in our Facebook group, Goodreads group, or on Instagram using the hashtag #the52bookclub2021. As always, get as creative as you like with the prompts!

Need help interpreting each prompt? Here are a few ideas:

Published in spring (any year): Depending on where you live in the world, your definition of spring may be very different from someone else’s “book published in spring.” And that’s okay! As we always say, “Your challenge, your rules!” If you’re still stumped, here are links to a few popular options for books published in spring 2020, books published in spring 2019 or even a link to my favourite book of 2021 so far, out May 4th! And, our 52 Book Club Goodreads list — feel free to add any spring published books to the list! Don’t forget that you can usually find the exact release date for each book by simply typing the title + “publish date” into Google!

An author or character with a floral name: Floral names are those named after a flower! Examples include Rose, Daisy, Ivy, Magnolia, Poppy, Violet, Daphne, Lily, Jasmine, etc. Here’s a Goodreads list of characters or authors with a floral name or this list of twelve famous literary characters named after flowers. (Who knew Katniss from the Hunger Games was also a type of flower?)

Sunshine on the cover: This could be a cover with a sun, sunshine, or bright blue sky. It could also be any book with sunshine or sun in the title! Check out this Goodreads list for ideas.
