October 2021 Mini-Challenge

October 2021 Mini Challenge from The 52 Book Club

Our October 2021 Mini-Challenge is here! We have three brand new prompts — perfect for all the spooky and thrilling reads you’d set aside for this month.

Don’t like scary reads? That’s okay! Feel free to interpret these prompts as creatively you like. Romance reads or thrillers, non-fiction or horror, it’s all up to you! Just don’t forget to share your creative ideas so the rest of us can see your brilliance too!

The October 2021 Mini-Challenge Prompts:

– Inspired by Sherlock Holmes

– A plot driven story

– Ghosts, witches, and pirates… oh my!

Match one book to each of the prompts (for a total of three books). Share your picks in our Facebook groupGoodreads group, or on Instagram using the hashtag #the52bookclub2021. You can choose to read these books in addition to your regular 52 Book Club reads, or you can combine them with prompts still left on your 2021 list. As always, get as creative as you like with the prompts and have fun!

Unsure about the prompts? Let’s take a closer look!

  • Inspired by Sherlock Holmes: Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. For this prompt, choose a book that his been inspired by this world famous detective! You could choose a spin-off, a mystery that has a similar feel, or an author whose own writing journey was inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle. Looking for ideas? Check out our Goodreads List here! As always, feel free to add your own ideas and suggestions to the list!
  • A Plot Driven Story: A plot driven story (also called narrative driven) is one where character development is secondary to the plot — think plot twists, complex and fantastical world building, and lots of action! You still have detailed and interesting characters, but the emphasis is the plot. These books are often exciting, fast-paced and have you quickly flipping pages to find out what happens next. Many mysteries, thrillers, suspense, romance, fantasy or sci-fi books are plot driven. Check out our Goodreads List here for plot driven books!
  • Ghosts, Witches, and Pirates… Oh My! This one is fairly self-explanatory but feel free to get as creative as you like with it! Don’t like spooky stories? How about a spin-off about Peter Pan? A non-fiction read about witch trials? Or check out our review for this dual-timeline mystery that includes a haunted circus. Need more ideas? Take a look at our Goodreads list, and don’t forget to add your own suggestions there too!
