Read the book. Watch the movie. Our 2026 Read It, Watch It Challenge is here!
The 52 Book Club’s Read It, Watch It Challenge is an optional, bonus challenge connected to the prompts you’re already reading for our 2026 challenge. This challenge was originally a fan-created challenge that has evolved over the years, and this year, we’ve added a new twist for you.
To start, choose your difficulty level:
1) OPTION ONE: QUARTERLY — For this option, you’ll complete one prompt each quarter. (One in January-March, one in April-June, one in July-September, and one in October-December.) This means you’ll read and watch four books/movies total. You can choose any four prompts from our 2026 challenge to complete.
2) OPTION TWO: MONTHLY — Our second option is for twelve books/movies total. You’ll complete one Read It, Watch It prompt each month. You can choose any twelve prompts from our 2026 challenge to complete.
Unlike past Read It, Watch It challenges, you get to pick the prompts you’d like to complete for this challenge. Choose any four or twelve prompts from The 52 Book Club’s 2026 Challenge. (For example, in January, I might pick “A character with a secret identity,” but you might choose “spans a decade or more.”)
Pick a book that matches the prompt, but that also has a movie or TV adaptation. It does not have to be a direct adaptation. Part of the fun of this challenge is seeing different creative interpretations and how that plays out on the screen.
Read the book. Then, watch it!
Now the real question is, which did you like better? Book? Or movie?

Questions and tips:
- Does the movie have to be a direct adaptation of the book?
No. As always, feel free to get creative with this bonus challenge. For example, you could choose to read Pride and Prejudice for the prompt “Title starts with the letter P.” You could then watch a direct adaptation of the book, or choose a looser interpretation such as Bridget Jones’s Diary or Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
As always, it is up to you how flexible you’d like to be with your interpretation of each prompt.
- Does a TV series count for this challenge? Absolutely!
- Is this challenge on Storygraph? Yes! You can find it by clicking here!
- Can the book have been written after the movie? Of course! For this challenge, it doesn’t matter whether the book or the movie came first.
