Every Hour Until Then

Book Review

Every Hour Until Then by Gabrielle Meyer
Historical Fiction | Romance | Time Travel | Christian Fiction | Mystery

The time has come for one of my most anticipated reads of 2025 — Every Hour Until Then by Gabrielle Meyer — to hit shelves. And let me tell you, this did not disappoint.

With each book in this series, Meyers brings us a fresh twist and perspective to the time-travelling world she’s built. Every Hour Until Then is unique in that, in addition to the romance / historical fiction blend of the past four books, we also get an added mystery element to this storyline.

Jack the Ripper is a case that has fascinated society for well over a hundred years. While a lot of fiction has been written about the subject, the time travel element makes this story feel fresh and creative. As with all her books, Meyer has clearly done a fair amount of research into the time periods, as well as the various theories about who Jack was, and there were some great historical details woven throughout.

Our main character, Kathryn, time-travels between 1888 and 1938 (the two closest timelines for travellers we’ve seen in this series so far) and uncovers chilling information about her sister’s death. The only problem is that if she knowingly changes history, she forfeits the ability to stay in that time period, forever losing the man she loves to save her sister.

Once I start reading one of Meyer’s books, I can’t put it down. And this book was no exception. Meyer weaves together timelines seamlessly, bringing new layers and complexities to the challenges these time travellers face. There’s sweet romance, compelling characters, and some excellent tension within this story. It genuinely kept me on my toes as I questioned how this could possibly resolve satisfactorily!

Another brilliantly created book with a riveting premise, and perhaps my new favourite in the series. (Although I say that every time. Every. Single. Time. These books just keep surprising me in the best possible way, and I hope the series continues for another five at least.)

I will also note that this is a series I highly recommend reading in order. While each book follows a new character in this family tree of time travellers, there are numerous easter eggs and cameos hidden throughout each book – and that’s part of the fun.

If you love historical fiction, time travel, romance, Christian fiction, and a little mystery – definitely add this one to the shelf!
