Book Review
Last Girl Ghosted by Lisa Unger
A suspenseful read about an online dating match turned deadly. This psychological thriller had me hooked from page one! (Keep reading for me full review!)
About Last Girl Ghosted:
(From the publisher) She met him through a dating app. An intriguing picture on a screen, a date at a downtown bar. What she thought might be just a quick hookup quickly became much more. She fell for him—hard. It happens sometimes, a powerful connection with a perfect stranger takes you by surprise. Could it be love?
But then, just as things were getting real, he stood her up. Then he disappeared—profiles deleted, phone disconnected. She was ghosted.
Maybe it was her fault. She shared too much, too fast. But isn’t that always what women think—that they’re the ones to blame? Soon she learns there were others. Girls who thought they were in love. Girls who later went missing. She had been looking for a connection, but now she’s looking for answers. Chasing a digital trail into his dark past—and hers—she finds herself on a dangerous hunt. And she’s not sure whether she’s the predator—or the prey.

Reader’s Thoughts
Last Girl Ghosted captured me right from the start. A girl who gets ghosted and then finds out the guy she’s been seeing also dated several other missing girls? All of whom met him on the same dating app? Uh, yes please! Lisa Unger had me at the very first chapter and I couldn’t flip pages fast enough!
The main character, Wren, is a woman with a troubled past. She’s guarded and a little secretive, but also has a huge heart for helping others. I immediately connected with her character and was fully invested in the way she fell so completely for Adam. Wren’s portion is written in first person and I loved how Wren only referred to Adam as “You” in her thoughts, rather than by name. (Gave me some real “You” by Caroline Kepnes vibes.) This really got across the obsession, heartbreak and the mindset she was in throughout the novel.
The first third of this book had me absolutely intrigued and unable to put the story down. Then the book shifted a little bit — at least, for me. The second half of the book focuses a lot on Wren’s history. Unfortunately, I just didn’t connect with this part of the storyline as strongly. It was still good, however, I missed the level of suspense that had been initially built. (In all fairness, this may be due to my expectations as a reader. Clearly, I’d expected the story to go a different direction.)
I was also looking for a big twist / reveal at the end and didn’t necessarily get that here.
Overall though, I enjoyed this book! It definitely kept me intrigued and curious until the final few pages. I think this is an interesting premise with great characters. This book has been everywhere lately and I can see it being a very popular read.
Also, five stars for the cover design because this cover is clever and suspenseful!
