What is the Sweet Reads Box?

But before I show you what was in the April box, let’s review what the Sweet Reads Box is…

Sweet Reads Box is a monthly book box subscription that delivers books and fun treats right to your door! There are single box, three month, six month, or twelve month options available. (Currently, Sweet Reads ships to Canada and the United States.) The items in the box are also specially curated to match the theme of the book. As a Canadian company, Sweet Reads Box often chooses local, Canadian suppliers for their goodies — and I love that about them!

The April 2022 Box Review

Did you guess Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus as this month’s book? If so, you’d be correct!

It seems as if this book has been absolutely everywhere lately, and for good reason! For fans of Where’d You Go, Bernadette and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel comes a really quirky read full of humor, emotion, and feminism. (You can see our full book review here!)

This April book box is perfectly curated to match this cooking theme, so let’s take a closer look at the goodies included:

Marinara Mix:

Lessons in Chemistry has a strong cooking theme and this box definitely took advantage of that! The first item I pulled out of my box was the Marinara Mix by Gourmet du Village. This package was super easy to use — simply add the seasoning, a little olive oil, and some sugar to a can of crushed tomatoes, heat it up, and voila, you have a tasty sauce for your noodles.

Italian Noodles:

And speaking of noodles, check out these Italian ones from Sweet Reads. The packaging on these were absolutely perfect and right on theme with the book’s cooking show “Supper at Six.” Noodles for dinner are always a guaranteed winner in this house and when the kids ask for seconds, you know it’s good!

Soda Biscuits:

The other “Supper at Six” branded item was a mix for soda biscuits. These are perfect for a night when you need to whip something up quickly. Simply combine the biscuit mix along with some soda water and cook for 20 minutes. This pack made six buns. The biscuits were so much lighter and fluffier than I expected, and the parmesan garlic taste was delicious!

Alpine Start Instant Coffee:

The branding on the items this month was super fun and this coffee from Alpine Start was no exception. I loved all the chemistry related tags. And while I don’t personally drink coffee, I have a coffee lover in my household who could taste test this for me.

Lemon Square:

This delicious square of lemony, coconut-y goodness was one of my favorite items in this month’s box. Better yet, it’s from a company local to myself — the Lemon Square Co. This sour treat was just the right size to satisfy my sweet tooth.

Dishtowel:

The dishtowels in this month’s box came in assorted styles, and I was absolutely delighted with the pattern on mine! In addition to the fact that the items in my Sweet Reads Box have all been good quality, I also love that it’s a practical item. This dishtowel from Danica is currently hanging on my stove and has already gotten a lot of use!

Lessons in Chemistry Pencil:

Pencils are a key part of the story in Lesson in Chemistry and I would have been surprised if it didn’t make an appearance in this month’s box! This one came from Penguin Canada and had a quote from the book on it, “Cooking is chemistry. Chemistry is life.”

Custom Notepad:

There were so many items in this month’s box and the custom notepad from I’ll Know It When I See It was another really practical one. I’m definitely a list maker and it’s already been put to good use multiple times!

Lab Goal Socks:

And finally, we had these amazing Lab Goal Socks from Endur. This is based off the novel’s character Six-Thirty (who was probably my character in the whole book! And yes… he’s a dog.) I’m always a fan of comfy socks with a graphic, and these were a great fit and a lot of fun!
