What is the Sweet Reads Box?

But before I show you what was in the March box, let’s chat about what the Sweet Reads Box actually is…

Sweet Reads Box is a monthly book box subscription that delivers books and fun treats right to your door! There are single box, three month, six month, or twelve month options available. (Currently, Sweet Reads ships to Canada and the United States.) The items in the box are also specially curated to match the theme of the book. As a Canadian company, Sweet Reads Box often chooses local, Canadian suppliers for their goodies — and I love that about them!

The March Box Review

The March box was my very first Sweet Reads Box and I can’t even tell you how excited I was to receive it. We all know that bookmail is the best mail. But better still? When the book comes with treats!

This month’s book was The Unsinkable Greta James by Jennifer E. Smith. I’ve heard from numerous bookworms that Greta James is on their “most anticipated reads of 2022 lists” and that immediately peaked my interest! (Plus, that cover is gorgeous.) The box also comes with a special note from the author and it’s always fun hearing from the creator of a story!

Ready to see what else was in the box? The rest of the items were curated to match the “Alaskan cruise” vibes from the novel — and I loved the thought and attention to detail that went into each of them. Let me show you what they were!

Call of the Wild:

A fun addition to the March book box was that it came with a SECOND book — Call of the Wild by Jack London. This feels like the perfect addition for an Alaskan themed story. (And, not to brag, but my book stacking skills have never been stronger than they were for the above shot!)

Vintage Inside Passage Bookmark:

I also adored the Woodly bookmark that came with this box. This wooden “Vintage Inside Passage Bookmark” is printed with a really cool Alaskan map. The back is stamped with a “handmade in British Columbia” marking and I’m a huge fan of that genuine Canadian touch.

Escape Cruise Margarita Mix:

Next up in the March box… the treats! This month came with “Escape Cruise Lines Margarita Mix” from Gourmet du Village and “Bear Droppings” from Walton Wood Farm. The Margarita Mix comes in a one-use packet and is very easy to whip up for when guests pop by. While the flavor wasn’t quite what I was looking for, that’s easily user-error as I was making a virgin margarita and probably had the ratios wrong.

Bear Droppings:

The Bear Droppings are actually chocolate covered almonds and were my favorite item in the box. The packaging gave me all the Alaskan vibes and I thought the name was adorable. I can also confirm that they do not taste like “bear droppings” but rather delicious, chocolate-y goodness. As the bag says, they are “dangerously good” and did not last long in our house!

Totem Spirit:

Each box also included a “Totem Spirit” from Native Northwest. Made of reclaimed wood, these gorgeous pieces feature art by a Haida artist. I received “Freedom” within my box but there are a variety of beautiful styles.

Greta James Solid Perfume:

The final item in the box is exclusive to Sweet Reads, and was a “Greta James Solid Perfume” from Walton Wood Farm. I’m wearing it as I write this and really enjoying the forest notes to the fragrance. It includes scents of coastal moss, combined with shipboard grapefruit and rosemary. To wear it, you simply apply a small amount to your pulse points. I found the smell “woodsy” and long-lasting.

  1. This looks like an incredible box with lots of amazing treats inside!! I would love to subscribe to something like this, but unfortunately at this point in time, it’s not in my budget to do so…especially with me being a single mom. But I appreciate you sharing this with us, it allows us to live vicariously through you : )
